Bedtime stories

I laughed as I put Naomi's pj's on last night. Tim was reading to Samara from her Children's Bible. Samara has learned early that she gets to stay up later when she picks really long books for us to read. The problem is that the Bible is really, really long - so long that the whole thing cannot be read before bed. And she always wants to start at the beginning.

This bothers Tim because he never gets past the Old Testament (Samara gets sick of it after a while and finds a different long book, like Tootle). And so - last night - he added commentary to each page in order to get some New Testament in there....

"'Adam and Eve are sorry and sad. They did something God told them not to do.' And later, God sent Jesus to save them from their sins!"

"'It rained and rained and rained. Soon everything was covered with water.' And in baptism, we learn all about water and what it's a sign of..."

"'Abraham and his wife Sarah were very sad because they didn't have any children. But who is this big boy? Now they have a son.' And in the New Testament, we read about Zechariah and Elizabeth who had a son in their old age."

"'Jacob had a dream about angels going up and down from heaven.' And in John, we read about how angels of God will ascend and descend on the Son of Man."

Preaching Christ from the Old Testament. :) Way to go, Love.

And now - I need to make a decision about what to preach for my first sermon as the pastor of Celebration at Harderwyk... I think it's going to be from the Old Testament. Samara will be pleased. And Tim won't have to listen to it because he'll still be at Faith. No matter what, I'll be sure to preach Christ.
