It's in God's court...

...well, it's always in God's court. :)

But an update on the Harderwyk situation. Last week was 'Harderwyk-week.' I had a congregational interview on Wednesday evening, August 6 and I preached from 2 Corinthians 4 on Sunday morning, August 10 (treasures in clay jars). (Both are online here.) In addition to these official interviews, I've had meetings with the pastors of the other two communities, the members of the Neighbors Plus board and the director of that non-profit, the worship coordinator, the chair and vice chair of council, the full council, the congregational leadership team. Needless to say, I haven't felt much like I'm on maternity leave. :)

But it has been a deep and good experience. The feedback that I've been receiving has been very encouraging. Most negative comments have had to do with my being a woman, a mom, and not having enough leadership experience. But the positive comments have been varied and nuanced. And the reception Tim and I and S&N received after the service on Sunday was warm and loving without being 'folksy.' I'm falling in love with these people.

Last night, the council met and voted to have a vote. The congregational vote is set for August 24. I return to work at the seminary on August 25.

Pray for clarity for us and for Harderwyk.

We trust that God has good things in store, no matter what.

Don't let the negatives get you down -- you know they're going to be said, so just take the lumps as they come and keep faith that the congregation will recognize that you're an awesome leader.

BTW just curious -- how do you mean, "And the reception Tim and I and S&N received ...was warm and loving without being 'folksy.'"?

I use 'folksy' to describe warmth without depth. Does that make sense?

Heidi, remember those days of being one of only two women in Dordt's philosophy courses? It's inspiring to read about and reflect on how God has led you since those days. Thanks for your updates. I will be praying with you.
