Our trip to Mackinaw City

.
This past week, we took our first just-the-three-of-us family vacation up to Mackinaw City. Samara has learned SO much in the last week or so. She turned 11 months old Monday - and we mark that day as the first day she took independent steps (the video shows the beginnings of that endeavor) and the first day she crawled a decent length of carpet without screaming (the video shows the later development of this endeavor).

Samara stepped feet in the waters of Lake Huron, on the stones of the beach, and over every inch of the hotel room. She saw horses and butterflies on Mackinac Island and took a nap under one of the Island's trees. She rode on her first ferry and over her first suspension bridge. She loves people and people are drawn to her smiles and squeals. Four out of five times, friendly tourists assumed she was a boy - most likely because we tend not to dress her in pink (I think pink is the only obvious girl-color. She wears red outfits with white flowers, and people still think she's a boy!).

Enjoy this little montage of her practicing her new skills!
